Super Villain Monday:Johnny Sorrow

The Greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the readers of Starman that Johnny Sorrow existed in the Golden Age of Comics.  In this case the devil is comic scribe and sage to all, James Robinson.
It was probably meant to be a throw away line, a bit of business that added credibility to a character.  A reference to an old times super villain called Johnny Sorrow.  No one ever thought that the mighty Geoff Johns would take th ball and run.
Somewhere in the mystic winds of time a mind from 1999 reached back to the 1940s and retroactively created one of the most dangerous bad guys in history.
Johnny Sorrow was a normal human until an accident with a teleportational device shredded his body and transported his remains to another dimension. An entity called the King of Tears restores Sorrow's consciousness, which now inhabits a floating suit and mask. The character can become solid (and vulnerable) if removing the mask, although this also reveals Sorrow's altered face. Seeing Sorrow's face is instantly fatal to almost all living creatures; the only depicted survivor is Dr. Mid-Nite, whose condition means that he does not perceive Sorrow's face the normal way. Sorrow himself is apparently also vulnerable to his own gaze, a recorded image of his face causing temporary paralysis. The character can also teleport; levitate and manipulate energy.

Johnny Sorrow, intangible, inter dimensional, part man, part Lovecraftian horror show .  If looks could kill, it must be Johnny Sorrow.
Johnny Sorrow become one of my fave big bads due to his well crafted back story, his interdimensional nature, and snappy sense of style.  Dude wears an orange suit!,,,
