Today's entry is for my buddy Bill.
It is a tribute to a writer/creator who, aside from working for Joss Whedon on Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and creating the super villain from Dr. Horrible. No not the Doctor himself, but the superior evil of Bad Horse
But before that, at the tender age of 18, he created the most iconic super hero who ever defended the city known as "The City"
The Tick and his faithful and whiny sidekick Arthur saved the world in a ridiculous fashion in every issue and animated episode. They did more for me than most of the more traditional super heroes. They gave me the gift of genuine laughter and ,quite often, made me scream "SPOON!!!" At the top of my lungs.
The Tick is a fictional character created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986 as a newsletter mascot for the New England Comics chain of Boston area comic stores. He is an absurdist spoof of comic book superheroes. After its creation, the character spun off into an independent comic book series in 1988, and gained mainstream popularity through an animated TV series on Fox in 1994. A short-lived live-action TV series, video game, and various merchandise have also been based on the character. IGN's list of the Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time ranked The Tick as #57.
